I first heard of the Osage Tribal Museum as members of the Laura Ingalls Wilder listserv planned a meeting at the Little House on the Prairie Museum in Independence, Kansas. This meeting was one of the precursors to the founding of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Legacy and Research Association. During the trip some of the group also visited the Osage Tribal Museum, located in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Since then board member Connie Neumann has kept track of what’s going on there and she’s shared the information about their 75th Anniversary.
Â
Connie shared this about her visit:
For those of you who don’t realize it, the Osage tribe were the specific Native American tribe that the Ingalls family encounters in the book Little House on the Prairie. From the accounts I’ve heard, the museum is very welcoming to Laura Ingalls Wilder fans wanting to know more. For the last 75 years the museum has spread the story of the tribe. Now in honor of its 75th Anniversary they are planning a two day event, Friday, May 3rd – Saturday, May 4th, 2013.
Whether it’s during the event or not, consider adding a trip to the Osage Tribal Museum in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to your next visit to the Little House on the Prairie Museum site.

Thanks for sharing!
I found our visit in 2008 (has it really been that long ago?) to be very interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed to information about the oil leases. I ditto Connie’s comment. Do go visit if you have the opportunity.
If anyone lives near enough to Osage Co. in Oklahoma, try to attend this seminar. There are several historian scholars who will be speaking on all topics Osage. Michelle Martin (current LHOP Museum Manager) plans to attend and will give a summary report afterwards.
I’m not sure where to post this, but why can’t the “The Laura Community Looses a Friend” be read? None of the responses either. Anyone else having this problem?
Is that the only post you can’t get into, Maggie? Not sure why that would happen.
Yes, seems to be. I’m reading the First Four Years posts just fine.
I had the same issue with the lost a friend post.
me too.
